An Impromptu Wine Weekend

9 Jan

Mark and I decided late last week that we were going to take an impromptu mini-vacation. So off we went on Saturday morning to Napa for a bit of wine tasting and fun. We went to a new winery for us in Napa and then took a crazy road over to Sonoma for a few of our favorites. We had such a great time with just the two of us and it was so nice to get away.

Life Jacket

8 Aug

We went camping AGAIN this past weekend. We always have so many adventures but I like camping even more than normal when we bring our puppies.

Meisje and Lexi love camping. But the one problem is that Lexi is a TERRIBLE swimmer. I don’t know if she is really a terrible swimmer but she does hate water. Every time we try to get her to go in the water she freaks out.

But we really wanted to hang out at the lake all day and we wanted to make sure Lexi felt comfortable.

I think she was more embarrassed and nervous than comfortable but I think this picture is so hilariously cute.

Everyone Loves Bakersfield

27 Jul

Ok that is not true.

But I used to have a roommate who was from Bakersfield and she had a Bumper sticker that said something like that. In any case that’s what I was thinking about as Mark and I made our way south for a family reunion last weekend. While not everyone loves Bakersfield, I love my family so it made Bakersfield mildly bearable for one evening.

My brother and sister ALWAYS crack me up. My brother was LOVING the “best restaurant in town,” Wool Growers.

And my sister was able to get all the pickled cow tongue she wanted by raising her hand in the restaurant:

Ok just kidding about her wanting more pickled cow tongue but for reals on it actually being served at the table.

My dad enjoying his pickled cow tongue.

Although my family may not have a taste for fine Basque cuisine, we did enjoy spending time together in a place my aunt calls Bakerspatch.

Me loving hanging with the fam!

The fam "loving" Bakersfield?

Anyway, Bakersfield may not be a tourist hot spot but it was nice to see my family so I would go there would love to schedule another family weekend adventure soon! Maybe somewhere else though…

Sausalito

20 Jul

I love San Francisco. And a perfect end to our day in the city was to head over to Sausalito to meet my parents for dinner. Continued photo montage!

So many cute houses!

Hanging out by the water.

Ice cream by the water with my parents. LOVE them.

So good!!

This is not the best picture but I love my hubby!

San Francisco Love

19 Jul

I adore San Francisco. I have been to LA, New York and Chicago but in mind none hold a candle to San Francsico. It is gorgeous and (relatively) clean. There are great restaurants and bars and TONS of shopping. And I totally lucked out that it is just over an hour away from where I live. Even so I really don’t go there often enough.

Fortunately my parents have a week planned in the city with some relatives. Since they got Sunday night we were able to meet them for dinner. And to make the most of it Mark and I spent the day in San Francisco. We didn’t have anything in particular to do so we were free to sit at a coffee shop and people watch for a few hours and then walk around and window shop.

And I got a chance to practice my mediocre photography skills. [Beware lots of random photos to follow]

The mall just looks cool. Vintage Fair in Modesto just is not the same.

I guess everything is a bit taller in San Francisco.

Sweet little shops staffed by grumpy old men - who are still nice enough to let me play photo happy tourist in their store.

I wish all public transportation was designed in fun colors.

SFFD. (This one is for Mark)

I know that Coffee Bean is not terribly San Francisco unique but I love it and there is not one anywhere near Ripon so we did our people watching there.

Love! Wish there were flowers stalls everywhere.

One day Mark and I will own a pair of these...
